Sensing Memories
(693 words)
Keyword: Memory management
Our memories need help; they need to be put under new management. We begin to manage our memories by generating some space between them and our immediate reality.
The key to this separation involves objectifying our memories with what I call the Objective Perspective (OP). With the OP, the brain gives us the ability to watch it in action. Just as your eyes sense light and your ears sense sounds, the OP senses, observes, and witnesses your feelings and thoughts.
Like our memories, the OP appears as just another voice. As the memory filters the data and tells us what to feel, the OP adds an extra filter. The OP’s filter alerts us to the decision we can make around whether or not we want to follow what the memories of feelings dictate. It is like the OP is asking you, “Hey, do you want to be in charge of your life or what?”
Takeaway: Objectify Your Memories
As one of our inner voices, the OP is like getting a second opinion from a different doctor. You the reader take on the role of listening to the OP and making sure you understand what it tells you. Your OP offers another way of feeling —one you may actually want more than what you got in the moment.
For instance, let’s take any nano-sized slice of life. In less time than the blink of an eye, the OP assesses the same incoming data from the body and senses as the memory does. It makes sense of the data like the memories do. Between the two, the OP offers you the conscious opportunity to contradict the unconscious memories of feelings.
Not All Memories Are Bad
The memory of a feeling might be appropriate for a situation and it might not. Despite what you may have read here it usually is; But you have an inborn right to an opinion about that feeling memory. The exercise of your rights regarding how you get to feel denotes a state of mind, a most worthy enterprise in life. Again, the idea here is to learn a way that keeps the memory from being so much at the controls of where you are going.
Strange as it may sound, your memory thrives on taking from you that right to your feelings, leaving you emptied of a future. We each a right to live in the past. As living in the past is a right, your memories will have you defending that right. screaming at others that you have a right to feel what you are feeling. Actually, what your memories really mean is that it as has a right to manifest in this moment the feelings from the past.
When memories rule, you might get away with it, this thing called life, but have you lived a life worth living? The OP offers how to get out of getting through life without actually have lived any of it.
You are charged with not letting the memories of feelings run your life. Sometimes that memory of a feeling is not even close to what you really want to feel. Such is the nature of so much of what we find confusing about life.
In the Home of the Objective Perspective
The OP comes to us from the landscape of our infinite possibilities. It warmly greets the unknowns that move into our presence from the future. It makes the future that we all are moving into new and full of opportunities. Here we are held in the palm of God’s hand, soaked in the energies of elevated feelings—the ways we most want to be feeling all the live-long day. We’ll discuss this more in future posts.
